Hi and welcome! I am so glad you are here! If you have made it to this post you may be interested in booking a newborn session with me :) Working with newborns is so amazing. I love being able to watch new parents or even 2nd and 3rd (or more ;) ) time parents interact with their sweet new bundle. It's amazing how fast they grow! I have 4 of my own (9, 7, 4 and 2) and it's hard to remember them as little newborns!

I do two different types of newborn sessions. Fresh 48 (Newborn Hospital Sessions) and Lifestyle Newborn Sessions (In-Home). I will tell you a little bit about both.

The Lifestyle Newborn Sessions are very relaxed. I visit you in your home within the first 10 days after birth to capture your family and your new little bundle. These sessions are also perfect for siblings because they are in their own environment and can play with their toys when I am taking photos of just the new baby. What better place to be than in the new baby's nursery or in your living room all cozy and comfy on the couch with your family for moments to remember for a lifetime!

The Fresh 48's are sweet because they document your first or second day with your little one before you leave the hospital. Your time in the hospital speeds by so quickly because you are just meeting this new little member of your family. You have paperwork to fill out, Dr.'s and nurses to talk to, and sometimes it's hard to really take those moments in to remember them for years to come. If you have another child, a fresh 48 session is the perfect time to have them come to meet their new brother or sister and capture their reactions.

I seriously can't believe another week has gone by. It was the kids' spring break and we didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. We had a few extra play dates with friends but it was pretty much business as usual.

Alli has been such a big help around the house. And she also has been occasionally offering to help get her little sister ready in the morning , diaper change and all! She such a good big sister! <3

Had some friends over on Friday afternoon and Maddy and my friend made cookies and brownies but we couldn't locate the brown sugar. So we sent Alli and her friend across the street to borrow a cup of sugar. This was a first for me :)

Had Alli's birthday party at Chuckie Cheese. I would say it was a success! I think we had like 14 kids....it was pretty wild. :)

Alli's first time ice skating was at her friend's birthday party. She sang in church in the morning so she had the dress on and then she put on her Elsa hat and mittens and pretty much much looked the part of Elsa minus the braids. She may have used her "ice powers" a few times while skating ;)

Winter in Minnesota.....one day it's snowing huge flakes and the next day it is 50 degrees plus and no one is wearing coats and then the next it is freezing again with blustery wind! I had to keep telling myself this past Saturday that it's still February even though it felt like spring, smelled like spring, and sounded like spring! I was ready to start preparing the garden! This year I want to make our veggie garden successful again. Last year with the fire and relocating for a month I just let it go and I missed our squash and beans. :)

I am SO glad I got this shot. I really wanted the magical shot of him holding is arms up to the sky and catching snowflakes in his mouth with those gorgeous big flakes but instead I got this very real moment. I asked him to put his arms up in the air and this is what I got! And I LOVE it!!

Quick shopping trip to order a cake for Jake's birthday party we had on Saturday with his friends. It was POURING rain which is why the umbrella is under the cart and I debated for a few minutes on whether or not I should risk taking my camera out and about but it turned out to be worth it. This was a game of Evie throwing her hat and Maddy picking it up for her. Who knows how long this could have gone on!

Capture before heading out for a session. I really don't like them playing catch in the house but he got a new football for his birthday so I guess.

I love this shot! Jake is reading to Maddy and Alli is reading outloud to herself and Evie is....well...finding a way to get into trouble.

Another couple shots at the grocery store. She was so determined to pick out apples by herself. She struggled and ended up asking for help.

After the rain the kids played outside for awhile.

We went to the park and it was short lived. It ended with the 2 youngest falling and getting wet and Alli was so mad that her fun was ruined.....

It's been so depressing with the weather. Not sure how many of you are feeling the darkness of winter right now too but I am really ready for the weather to turn warm. Trying not to let it get to me! I don't mind pretty snowflakes - I just could really do without the deep freeze temps. I think this was the first week I didn't take a photo outdoors. I tried searching for new light in my home to draw interest in. I think that is my biggest challenge right now - finding the light that will make the image interesting.

Alli has nightmares frequently. When she does she wants Daddy. I woke up to find her on the couch with her dad on the other end. She looked so peaceful and cozy. <3

Last day this kid was 8-years-old. I just can't even believe it. It may appear that he was helping me but he really just ended up throwing the clothes at me and it ended up being super fun until we had to pick up the mess....

Searching the house for new light I stumbled upon this little pocket of light. Evie was super into eating her Dum Dum so it was easy to get her to lay there as long as she was able to continue to enjoy it. :)

Valentine's Day with my babies <3 I was so against buying anymore stuffed animals! They are everywhere in my house. We have donated bunches of them. But when I woke up this morning I caved and ran to the store before they woke up and picked one up for each of them....<3

Runner Up Images from the week:

Maddy going through her Valentine's from school. She was so excited that she could read the names on them! Such a sweet moment.

Jake got a Rubik's Cube fore his birthday. Definately was the thing he wanted most.

Jake also got several Boxcar Children books for his birthday - his very favorite. He started reading them righ away.

I love the light in this image. She was eating peanuts from one of our favorite restaurants. Grandma and Grandpa took us there for lunch so she brought some home to eat. I love that you can see the peanut dust in the light from her breaking the shell.

The dentist. Maddy did so great! I was very proud of her. I thought for sure she would want to sit on my lap again but she didn't. Love that face!

On our way out from our visit to the dentist. Got 3 appointments done at once. It was perfect and so was this light! :)

Even at age 9 you can love the stuffed dog you got from your mom and dad on Valentine's Day <3

Per usual we have had another busy week. It seems that there is very little down time with a house full of kids but I am happy to be able to tell you that Jeremy and I were able to have a date night, FINALLY! I am so grateful that my parents were willing to take the kids for an overnight last night. It's hard to, well 1) find someone willing to take 4 kids and 2) not worry about how things are going with someone else watching your 4 kids! Having my parents close by is very much a blessing!

I had to include 2 images here so technically the first one will be #32 but I felt the need to have these together to help with the storytelling aspect. Oh little Evie. She watched me watch her find the icecream sandwich. She watched me watch her open it. She watched me watch her take a bite. But as soon as I started talking to her about it she wanted to become invisible. If she can't see me I can't see her right?? ;)

We had a little bit of a snowstorm on Tuesday. I left work early after Jeremy had called to tell me he had left early and that the roads were getting worse by the minute. I was happy to be able to have the extra time to watch the kids play in the snow. Alli was helping her little sister walk through the deep snow. <3

The morning of the spelling bee! Jake has been in the spelling bee 3 years in a row! I am so proud of him!! He did a great job!

Just removing some new snow from the driveway after school so Dad wouldn't have to do it again. It was their idea :)

We have made it a tradition to have donuts on Friday mornings. I love how focused and quiet they are. Not the typical mealtime scene!

So I debated on what photo to use for this day. Jake is in Cub Scouts and Saturday he had participated in the Pinewood Derby. He worked SO hard on his car with his Dad. His car was the slowest in EVERY heat but he still took home a trophy for 3rd place in his pack because there were only 3 kids in his pack. There were about 5 or 6 packs there. I thought for sure he would be so happy to still get a trophy. This was a huge realization for me on how grown up he is. He knew that his car didn't do well and it bummed him out. The trophy didn't make that better.....it would have a year or so ago. Now he is focused on how to make his car better next year. I took him out for a treat to try to get him to perk up a bit.

Maddy's turn for a haircut. Ever since her sister got one she had been asking every day when it was her turn. So I took her. You would NEVER guess by the photos that she was excited.....haha! She cracks me up!

I read an amazing post by a fellow photographer which made me think about trying off camera flash. Kristina is awesome and you can check her out here: http://www.facebook.com/hellooliviaphotography/ I really haven't tried off camera flash before so I gave it a whirl. It was already dark and I was not wanting to skip another day if possible of shooting. I am FAR from an expert on flash let alone off camera flash but I don't think my first shot at it was awful. Definately alot more learning to do though if I want to dive into it more!

Ever dream of getting that magical shot of your little girl catching snowflakes? That perfect shot? Ha! I do but not quite what I got. It was snowing and I literally had like a minute to try to get her excited about snow so instead this is what I ended up with. I still love it and it really shows how she was feeling that morning. A beautiful shot of her catching snowflakes would have been such a misrepresentation of our morning. :)

I was more than excited that the sun was out for our walk to pick up my 2 oldest from school. Especially since it was warm enough for there to be puddles! I absolutely am in love with this shot. The sunburst behind her head, the one on her foot and the tiny ones that surround her boots.

We had such a fantastic day together and I wanted to make sure that I captured it! We decided to break the rules and jump on the couch. It was awesome! I set my settings on my camera and set it up on some boxes and on a timer. We tried a few shots and this ended up being the last one and I LOVE that expression on her face! <3

Well it happened. I knew it was going to. It wasn't a matter of if -- it was a matter of when. I skipped a day..... I had to let myself. I knew that if I didn't I would give up on the whole project. And reflecting on the point of this project helped me to allow myself to miss a day. Now just because I missed a day doesn't mean that I missed an image. I still want to take 366 images this year to share and I will try to spread them out during the week. So really it is more of a 52 project. I can take 7 images in a week and share them even if it isn't 1 per day. When I started this project I told myself that I didn't need or want extra stress and if this project was doing that to me I would need to modify it -- so I did :) I hope you enjoy images 18-24 - oh and I threw in a runner up <3

As a photographer, I always love including certain elements into an image whenever possible. So when that sunburst crept into my shot I was excited! This is what our house looked like on a day off from school. Daddy got to stay home with them while I hurried off to work. That Winnie the Pooh Happy Halloween book is a favorite in our house. Maddy said she would look at me, "next time."

Baby Jameson {Newborn Hospital Session}

Baby Jameson was born right before the new year! I had given mom a bunch of photos the evening after I visited them to meet baby Jameson because I was headed out of town. SO excited to share some of my favorites on the blog with you! I was so fortunate to have been able to go to the hospital just 2 hours after he was born. I am starting to appreciate this project on a level I wasn't expecting. I knew that it would be a challenge and I really thought I would find myself just hurrying to get the shot in everyday. And yes this still rings true to some extent ;) but when I sit down to prepare my post at the end of the week I see the moments that happened throughout the week and I really feel like this is more of a weekly journal entry and I can apprecaite the personal value in capturing the everyday.

This image makes me laugh. Knowing the story behind it even more comical. Maddy and Alli always have battles over who gets to look at the back of the cereal box. I can totally relate....happened between me and my bro all the time. I actually had to remove the box from the table to settle the dispute. And look at that hair! It was wacky hair day at her preschool so it was perfect! I just put it up and threw on a headband with some long antennas. But later that night before bathtime it literally took me 45 minutes to get all the snarls out. I'm not sure how it got so bad!

Target. Maddy, Evie, and I went to Target to pick out a birthday gift for her friend. She was so excited about going to the party the next day. She also picked out those boots to wear and put them on herself.....she puts them on the wrong feel almost every time. Love it! Oh and we decided to have pajama day :)

After 4 sessions in the morning and early afternoon I really didn't want to pick up my camera again. My dad, these 2 and I went to an antique store. My dad and Jake are really into coin collecting and Jake offered to buy something for Alli. How sweet! So he was helping her decide what to get.

Jake loves The Boxcar Children and when I saw that beautiful sun this morning I asked him if he would read on the bay window sill. He finishes these books quickly and always wants another one. Glad that he is so into reading.

Hotel Life Part 2: The Rest :)

As promised I am blogging the rest of what hotel life was like after our kitchen fire this summer. Glad I am getting a chance to post these before the really busy fall season! I loved being able to capture the littles' interactions with each other in their daily lives at the hotel. It was so cute to watch them help each other and to see how they were interpreting the world around them. They loved to pretend to be adults in the lobby and they made sure they all had turns using the key card to open the door to our room and to press the elevator buttons. I have showcased a few of my favorites from the month we lived at the good ole' Homewood Suites.

Hotel Life Part 1: The Pool!

Part 1 of Hotel Living :) So if you aren't familiar with the whole story - I won't bore you with all the details - but basically we had a kitchen fire that resulted in us moving out of our home for a month. It's been a roller coaster ride for sure and our kitchen is far from being usable again but we have moved back home. Living at a hotel for almost a month wasn't all bad! Our kids got more exposure to the water since the hotel came equipped with a pool which in turn has made them try new things and I am excited to announce that my two oldest are now brave enough to jump in on their own and go underwater! (and my 3rd is putting her face in - gotta make sure to mention that!) All you parents out there know how huge of a milestone this is, especially when your kids freak out in the bathtub when they get a tiny drip of water in their eye!

I honestly can't believe my baby is 1 already! Holy cow time goes fast! This little girl is always on the move! I am a firm believer that you don't always have to have your subject looking at the camera straight on and smiling. Of course those are nice shots and good to have a few of them but really capturing the stage that your child is at sometimes means capturing beauty in the "real" moments. We were invited to stay out on a friend's family farm for an overnight camping trip a few weekends ago. My youngest was sick and my husband convinced me it was ok to enjoy time with our other three kiddos while he stayed home and took care of our baby. So I packed them up and off we went! I am SO glad I did! My 8-year-old son described our first day there as "the best day of his life!" Here are a few of my favorite shots from our little trip!

So I did this photo shoot for my brother and his girlfriend back in January.....I had my fingers crossed that he would surprise her during the shoot with a proposal because wouldn't that be an amazing moment to capture?!?!? Well that didn't happen but since this shoot these two are officially engaged!! So happy to have a wonderful person like Karina as my soon-to-be-sister-in-law! I am going to be doing an engagement session for them this weekend and I can't wait! I can't spoil the details but there will be a theme......

Going on shoots is probably one of the most fun parts of photography. Interacting with clients and setting up for beautiful photos using light and props and of course the subjects :) But the creation of the final product doesn't end when the shoot ends. Uploading the photos onto the computer and deciding how to edit them is the next major step in completing the final product. I have a style that I like but it's fun to explore different styles of editing. It is amazing how one image can look so different and uniquely beautiful just by changing the way you decide to edit it. Which one do you like the best?

Yesterday was much warmer than one would think being the end of September (I guess you never know in Minnesota)! I had a family with 3 small children on a shoot. They did a GREAT job!! Last evening I was outside with my kids after mowing the lawn. I noticed a beautifully lit area in the back corner of our yard. I asked my 3-year-old, Maddy, if she was up for doing a photo shoot or in her words a "photo toot". We threw a dress on her and seized the moment! Here are a few images I got :)

So a few weeks ago I did a short session with little Evelyn at 3 months old and I still hope to do "Part 2" in the near future (now she is officially 4 months old!!) But for now I am working on finishing up editing her newborn photos (yes I know, I am a tiny bit late on this but being she's my daughter I didn't have a real deadline). She was my very first newborn session and I took LOTS of images. She was the perfect little model. Here are some of my favorites :)

Evelyn's 3 Month Shoot - Part 1

My little girl, Evie, just turned 3 months old. I wanted to capture this stage in her life so of course I took her on a photo shoot (thanks mom for assisting me). I am calling this part 1 because I really only did a "mini session" with her. It was really hot and sticky so I didn't want to overdue it. I anticipate a part 2 in the upcoming weeks :) so stay tuned...... One of my favorite things about this stage is that you can get a lot of shots in a small amount of time without moving baby around too much because their facial expressions change constantly!!!
